About our Blog
Welcome to 2KM’s blog! We are the children from 2KM at Leopold Primary School. Leopold is in Victoria, Australia.
There are 22 of us in 2KM and our teacher is Kathleen McGeady. We use our blog to share all the great things we are learning and let you know what is happening in our class. If you want her hear more from Miss McGeady, check out her own blog here.
If you want to email Miss McGeady, this is her address…
What is a blog?
If you are unfamiliar with blogs, they are like online journals. Blogs are websites where administrators (in our case Miss McGeady and 2KM students) can add posts which are displayed in reverse chronological order (that means the newest posts come up at the top of the page). There are panels on the side where you can go to past posts and view recent comments.
You can subscribe to our blog instead of checking all the time. This means you will get an email when there is something new on the blog. Click on the link on the right hand side to do this.
More on Blogs…
Blogs are great because you can share your work with a wide audience. Instead of Miss McGeady just seeing the students’ work, all of the parents and visitors from across the world can view 2KM’s work and leave comments.
Using blogs is also a great way for students to improve their ICT and literacy skills. Blogging provides a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about appropriate online behaviours. One of the most rewarding experiences from blogging is the global connections we have made with classes from around the world!
* Look at the page on the tab up the top “Our Blog Guidelines” to see how this blog is kept secure.
For more information on blogs, this video clip is an excellent, simple explanation of what blogs are all about. Check it out!

Hi,
I am the principal at Mrs. Yollis’ school. I am very impressed with your blog and happy that you are friends with the students at my school.
I was reading your veggie and fruit day story and was trying to remember what a capsicum is. I used to live in Australia a long time ago, and I knew that we call that vegetable something different in the U.S. – then I remembered, we call them bell peppers.
Thanks for having such a great blog. It’s fun to make friends in other countries!

Hi Kathleen,
I saw your blog mentioned on Sue Waters’ Help page for Edublogs & just wanted to tell you how fabulous it is! I love all the interactive activities you are doing with your students & posting to your blog.
I’m a school librarian in NY and am always on the lookout for new applications for my teachers.
I hope that you’ve gotten lots of positive feedback from parents and your administration!
Keep up the great work & I’ll be sure to keep up with your blog.
all the best,

Hi Ms Letendre and 3L,
Thanks for checking out our blog! I have just been looking at your blog and left a comment.
I have added your blog to “Blogs we Like” on the right hand side so all the students in 2KM can look at what is happening in your class.
The teddy bear project was fantastic and we learned a lot about Canada through doing it! Unfortunately the project is over now. We did it with the 2KM class of 2009. Matilda did arrive home safely but took many months to come back!

I love, love, love your blog! I am taking a graduate course about blogging from Penn State University. We have to add 5 helpful hints of blogging from a professional blogger and I would like to use your blogging guidelines for students. Would this be possible? I teach third grade in Athens, PA and I am just beginning this blogging stuff. You and your class are doing an awesome job!
Thanks!

Hi Claudia,
Thanks for stopping by. I would be happy for you to use our blogging guidelines. Let us know when you get your class blog set up and we’ll stop by and say hi. You might find my own blog useful too. On the right hand side select “blogging” from the drop down category menu and you’ll see I’ve written a few posts with blogging tips etc.
Hope this helps!
Kathleen

Hi 2KM
I’ve just had a quick look at your blog and I think it is FANTASTIC!
I am going to start up a blog with my class and can’t wait to show my students your blog and all the clever ways you share your learning.
Did you choose the free or pro option when setting up? Do you have any hints for starting up a class blog?

Hi Mrs F,
Thanks for visiting our blog. We use Global Student. It is free for Victorian government schools.
I write a blog for teachers and I’ve done a few articles on blogging tips.
Just go to my blog http://primarytech.globalteacher.org.au/
and in the search box on the right hand side, type in “blogging”….then scroll down and you’ll see various posts related to blogging.
Hope that helps and good luck!
Kathleen McGeady
PS Sue Waters’ blog called the Edublogger has been a wealth of information to me. Check it out!

Hi Kathleen and 2KM
Love your blog. Read the article about your blogging in the Educ Tech. magazine and then checked out your work on line. Then followed some links to other blogs you like – wow! I have lots of great blogs now to share with the teachers at my school – Strathaird PS, it’s an outer SE suburb of Melbourne.
By: Kathleen McGeady on August 8, 2010 at 4:42 pm
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your comment!
I’m glad you saw my article in the magazine and took the time to check out our blog. We really love blogging in 2KM and every day we reap the rewards of the work we put in!
Good luck sharing our blogs and the blogs of our friends with your fellow teachers.
